Synopsis
As part of the Ukrainian Film Festival in Berlin, we invite you to a special screening of Crimea. Isolation, a two-part documentary produced by Cemaat Production.
The film explores the reality of life in occupied Crimea through personal stories and testimonies. It focuses on the isolation of the peninsula, repression, restrictions on freedom of expression and the experiences of people who continue to document and speak about what is happening in Crimea. Through individual stories, the documentary offers a look at the human consequences of the occupation and the challenges faced by those who refuse to remain silent.
Part One focuses on freedom through the story of journalist and First Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Nariman Dzhelyal. Through his family’s story and the testimony of his wife, Leviza Dzhelyal, the film explores how occupation affects everyday life and limits not only freedom of speech, but even freedom of thought.
Part Two explores the importance of freedom of expression through the experiences of Crimean journalists and educators. Lenyara Abibulaeva, Nariman Memedeminov, Shevket Kaibulla, and teacher Susanna Bezazieva share their experiences of searches, persecution, imprisonment, and pressure for speaking openly and expressing their views.
The event will be followed by a panel discussion and will include a letter-writing workshop organised by Libereco, giving participants the opportunity to write letters of solidarity to Crimeans currently in captivity.
Production: Cemaat Production
The event is co-organized by the Assembly of Crimean Tatar Organizations (ACO), KERMEN e.V., CEMAAT – independent Crimean media, and Libereco.
